Background screening companies are required to assure the maximum possible accuracy using reasonable procedures in their reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Yet some background screening companies are cutting corners and comprising the accuracy of their reports, the National Consumer Law Center reports.
The NCLC reports that background screening companies routinely “mismatch people; omit crucial information about a case; reveal sealed or expunged information; provide misleading information; and misclassify offenses.”
The report identifies various reasons for these mistakes. Among them is relying solely on bulk records and large databases of information when conducting a background check.
“Spotty participation by the nation’s 3,100 county courts, along with a hodgepodge of data formats, make national crime databases vastly incomplete,” said Bob Sullivan, a technology correspondent for NBC News, in 2005.
To ensure the most accuracy in our reports, XG Consultants Group conducts all county civil and criminal checks in-person, and has a researcher to cover every county in the U.S.
XG cross references this information with what is available in the databases in order to gather the most accurate results possible, so you can choose the right candidate and avoid potential lawsuits.
